Saturday fishing was at anchor. Not really a good idea as mackerel were very scarce and so we had no rubby dubbie to attract fish. I brought 8 that I caught in a 3.5 hour period on Friday night. We caught 3 on the boat plus a few launce.
The 3 hired boats had 7 anglers each. The boat that I was on had a constant flow of dogs and everybody caught at least one ray. Mick had the best fish of the day with a beautiful smoothhound.
I had my first painted ray…………a beauty of about 8lb.
The other boats had mainly dogs.
Sunday was fishing on the drift and was indeed an active day. There was a constant steam of fish on our boat all day……pollock, cod, ballan & cuckoo wrasse, ling, dabs, pouting.
Well done to Mel for catching a 9.5lb cod.
Thanks to the 3 skippers John Deveraux, Dick Hayes and Billy Bates for 2 great days out.
Had a bit of bad luck losing a brand new Grauvell rod and a Penn 850 spinning reel over the side of the boat. However, after 2 days fishing I was chilled out enough to cope.
As usual a great weekend away with the Borough SAC.
Thanks to Tom Butler for sponsoring the competition ( Norman Jackson memorial) with great prizes. Without Tom the Borough probably would not exist.
