People:jack and myself

Duration:10-5

Tide:in and out i guess

Weather:calm enough

Bait:mack

Rigs:tope traces, animal gear, gilling stuff

Results:gurnard,codling,whiting,mackerel,dog,huss,tope and thornback ray

Report:with a break in the weather we decided to try the spot where i got my tope last weekend, after feathering mackerel which for once came in a steady and plentiful supply for once and hitting a mark for gurnard where none showed, we headed straight out. the mark came up on the gps and down went the anchor, first drop for jack resulted in a hit, didn't even have time to set the lead, next it was my turn, fish hit and went, before the drag was set, at least there was fish around. a dog and then a huss of about 8lbs for me and then i got hit again. this time he had time to run off before i could set the hook, 10 minutes later i had a 25lb tope aboard, next drop and smaller fish hit the bait straight away, 10 minutes later a 20lb tope was boated. jack got hit by a steam train, ran for about 60 yards before it tail rubbed against the braid and cut itself off, same thing happened to me the next drop, and finally jack hooked a nice tope of about 50 lb, got him to the boat quite quickly and as i was about to tail him, he set off on his first of many runs, 20 minutes later or so we had him aboard, another fews runs later and a dog to jack , i hooked into a fish similar to jacks, after a blistering run, i got him up and towards the boat, he tried to run again but this time i decided it was time for the bullying approach, with the drag tightened i began to reef him up, one more run and broke straight through 50lb braid, aha! lesson learned, bored of tope fishing we decided to try for a pollock under bray head, not one fish showed, however dennis was on his way out so we feathered up some mackerel for his tope session. decided now to head off for ray while we waited for dennis, so we hit a spot thats been very good to me this summer for ray, first drop got me Thornie, next drop a nice tub gurnard and the following drop another Thornie, dennis arrived and with the mackerel dropped off, we set off to the reefs for wrasse and pollock, try as we may we couldn't hit one, so we called it a day.
