Fri Jul 18, 2008 12:10 pm

People: Me and Donal

Duration: 18:30 - 22:30

Tide: HW :18:00

Weather: mild, slight nw breeze

Bait: frozen mack, rag, squid and some fresh mack

Rigs: flowing traces, hokkais, shamrock animal rigs, flappers, ray traces

Results: dabs, mackerel, dogfish, pollack, huss, pouting

Report: Headed out with new crewmate Donal for a session. First off hit the bank to see if we could bag our first blondes ray of the season. Something was having a go at my big squid baits, but no hookups on it. We had other rods out with flowing traces and picked up a few dabs and a doggie.
Interestingly, Donal managed two mackerel on his groundbait off the bottom - maybe this is why we haven't been picking up macks in the normal way around the harbour - they've all become bottom feeders

Drifted off to harbour rock, picking up a couple of more dabs on the way. Anchored off the back of it for half an hour, but no joy on the conger or wrasse baits. Drifted the rock again, Donal opting for baited hokkais picking up pollack, me for rag picking up pollack and small pouting.

With time getting short we made a quick dash for a huss mark and managed to get one huss each and a doggie in about half an hour, just leaving us time to get back to the slip and out.
