People: me and Anthony

Duration: 10:30 - 14:15

Tide: LW about 10:00

Weather: scorchio

Bait: yesterday's macks

Rigs: anthony - feathers and big muppets, me hokkais and a 2/0, size 2 3 hook combo and a conger rig

Results: Anthony - Ling, Pollack Me - Ling, Conger, Pollack, Coalie, Ballan Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse, Launce

Report: Saved from another day of tiling my garage roof :D by Anthony and his fishing trip followed by his barbecue session (keep the girls happy).
Arrived at his Crosshaven mooring in perfect conditions, barely a ripple on the water and the sun beating down. First trip out on his Bayliner, not everyones first choice of fishing boat, but talk about comfortable. Not sure how I'm going to go back to my little orkney after that :(
Zoomed out to Ling Rock in about 25 minutes. Fished it on the drift the whole time we were there. For the first hour or two I was getting a fish a drop, lots of knocks on the baits the whole time. Plenty of ling up to about 5lbs, the usual showing of cuckoo wrasse, the odd ballan, an accidental launce and a single coalie. Anthony was catching less frequently, not surprising with his larger baits, but still managed a steady stream of ling
Reverse of the last day I was here, with plenty of ling, but only one pollack each.
Broken off by something decent (my dodgy knot to blame after a hasty repair). Anthony also hooked into a decent fish, but it manged to free itself after a good fight to close to the surface.
Fishing quietened down for the last hour or so, and with the bait mostly used up, I switched to a mackerel head and extraneous bits on my conger rig. Picked up a small conger after about 15 minutes.
Tried a couple of different parts of the rock, but apart from a couple of small ling to Anthony, nothing doing.
From what we could see and hear on the radio chatter, the other boats out there were having quiet times of it, but most of them were at anchor. Might have picked up from them later, but we had a couple of hours there anyway.
No sign of any mackerel anywhere we tried, including a couple of quick drops on the way back, thank goodness he had some from the previous day or we might have been in trouble out there
Great day's fishing, good weather, good company, good fish, good boat, good barbecue, fish cleaned and filleted for me - Carlsberg don't do fishing trips but.........
