Shannon Estuary:

5 hours:

high at 3.30 pm:

Glorious:

Drove the 80 miles to Kilrush to the boats summer home and after an uneventful launch, set off up the estuary in sweltering conditions.

Half a mile towards the Atlantic saw us run into fog with visibility down to 20 metres. Completely unable to see anything, ran to Kilcredaun head on GPS.

While trying to feather up mackerel, we caught dozens of pollack in the 1- 3lb range
The brother hooked a fish which tore off at a rate of knots and then got off
On reeling in tthere were 5 half pound pollack and the bottom feather and weight missing. Tope suspected here!

With enough mackerel in the box for bait, patchy still, we headed off to beal bar and rigged for tope.

The tope are here but not in big numbers yet. We had 2 fish in the 25-30lb range and missed a run. No huss at all, unusual here.

Large numbers of quality whiting reported off loop head, so off there tomorrow. Cant beat fresh whiting in beer batter, lovely
