Culdaff Bay and Offshore Wrecks 20/10/07

Poor day on the wrecks today, fishing was very slow and there was quite a dirty swell making the fishing uncomfortable at times. We had ling, pollock, coalies, cuckoo wrasse, mackerel, pouting, whiting, red/grey/tub gurnard, but not in any considerable numbers. Size of fish was also quite poor however the sounder was marking lots of fish over the wrecks, they just didn't connect with us. Most of the pollock had empty stomach so either there was no food available or they had been put of feeding for some reason. Very few mackerel around, very small quantity of tiny joeys showing on the offshore wreck marks. Disappointing.[/list]

Going from that I'm not too dissappointed I didn't mangage to get out with ye at the weekend, surprised though as would have expected the pollock to be feeding well at this time of the year.

Anyway I was forced to go shopping with herself on Saturday so you had a better day than me irregardeless of what you caught

Yeah, we were a bit suprised about that alright, opened the stomachs of all the fish we kept, all completely empty apart from the fish which were caught off the rocks inshore, which had a few pipefish inside. We had a nice red gurnard of specimen size from the bay and a few decent sized greys as well.
