Report: set out in search of a species bash and hooking my first ever smoothie, 12 years of angling is a long time to wait. the weather was pretty amazing, the water was flat calm, haven't seen it like that in weeks! started of my day paddling about 1 mile towards dalkey island and found myself in about 55ft of water it was here i decided to fish for animals, first fish was a dog followed by another dog and so on, put some hermit crab on my bottom snood and got my first smoothie take. he fought all the way to the surface and even gave me a tow, well sort of. when i got him to the surface he decided it would be a good time to jump, oh dear, it wouldn't tire and kept splashing my deck and my face. eventually it admitted defeat and i unhooked him in the scissors, took a photo and sent him off to fight another day, a few more followed, all common as well as dogs. ran out of hermit and mackerel, so i paddled inshore to drift for small fish. hooked a mackerel and then some pin whiting plus a bonus gurnard. with an hour or so left i went out to a string of lobster pots to catch cod and Pollock with feathers and rag. caught a few around the 30-35cm mark and called it quits. on my way home i was confronted by a pod of harbour porpoises, wow there small but graceful, nice day to be out.
