Red Gill, Cork Harbour - 15th August

Thu Aug 16, 2007 3:19 am

People:Me

Duration:20:00 - 22:00

Tide:HT 20:03

Weather:Fair, stiff NW, squally at times

Bait:

Rigs:Spinners, Plugs

Results:9 bass (best 4lbs)

Report:Over the last few nights noticed surface activity a bit more substantial than mackeral breaks. On the assumption that these were more likely schools of bass chasing mackeral or sprat I headed for the same spot to test the theory. Using a silver toby picked a few mackeral & a solitary scad. Then lo and behold a nice bass took the lure. With the scales out of action I estimated the fish at 3lbs on the basis that it was about 45cms in length. Over the next hour upto darkness repeated drifts produced another 8 bass with the best probably 4lbs (one falling to a green mackeral J30). Several mackeral also added to the tally.
