Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:40 am

Crew - Edwin and I
Rigs - Hokkai, then mackerel flappers
Results - Mackerel, Pollack, Tope
Low water 2pm

Launched Puca at Kilrush sunday morning. Discovered that my decals had peeled over the winter layoff, so now the boat with no name

Ran out to a few marks inside the estuary trying to find some mackerel. This proved time consuming, before I discovered shoals at Kilcredaun head. The mackerel were tight on the bottom in 50 feet of water. While drifting close to the head, we then started hitting into small pollack of a pound or so. Then after drifting up and over a small reef , a great stamp of pollack averaging 5lbs started coming aboard
Great sport, but the mission was to see if the tope have arrived

Anchoring off beal bar in a fairly stiff wind with the tide fairly humming, we spent an hour after tope. At the last gasp, Edwin boated a lovely pack tope of approx 30lbs

Really pleased with the first run out, but a short day due to late arrival and scratching for the mackerel

Roll on next week
