Duration: 6.30-11.30 5 hours
Tide: high 8.30ish
Weather: Misty and clam, then sunny and breezy
Bait: feather, hokkais, fresh mackerel strips and flappers
Rigs: 6/0 hooks single hook booms, baited hokkais
Results: 6 Ling, 7 Pollack, 1 Cuckoo Wrasse, 1 Conger, Buckets of mackerel
Report: Set out early on a misty morning, heading for Ling Rock for some good fishing we hoped. First drop of the line caught a few mackerel, which was great as we'd brought no bait with us, banking on the chance we'd get some. Plauged with them after that hard to get the hokkais down to the bottom without a take, plus they kept knocking the line on the way down. Typical, was looking forward to getting some and then they are a nuisance already :lol:
After as the mist lifted that we switched to bigger hooks and bait to tempt some bigger fish. Tide was very slack, so not much drifting the whole time we were there. Picked up some bigger pollack and ling and the conger on the big mackerel strips, but nothing notable, biggest fish (conger aside)maybe 6lb pollack, ling biggest 4lb.
Got a bit of wind against tide, and as we were limited on time decided to head in.
Banged some more mackerel for a feed on the way back in just off the coast and tried really close in to see if they are reachable from the shore (which they were). Enjoyable day, just a shame it didn't last longer.
I'm off to a mackerel barbecue. 8)

Nice fishing. Great to see the mackeral are back had one form the shore Thursday afternoon. Plenty off Power Head yesterday. The south west winds could change all that.
The best way to avoid the mackeral is to put on a bigger weight and bigger baits. If that fails try stricking as hard as you can this often pulls the hook out of them.
