Black head, Co. Clare

Mon Feb 19, 2007 1:08 pm

I decided to take my first trip this year on Sunday.

Weather was a little windy from SE so I fished slightly on the Southern side of the head.
Fished with fresh sand eel, lug, mussel and crab.
Floated at various depths in close and ground-baited out farther to about 100 meters.
Fished from low water around 1pm until it started to rain at around 6pm.

Results: Apart from a few bites nothing except two edible crabs, one of which I managed to land.
Overall it was nice to be out and enjoyable

Pity about the fishing...

Does black head normally fish at this time of the year?

from my experience of fishing there... it usually picks up around april/may

i find the best time to fish there (around the light house area) is september/october, around 'the flats' june to september, and further down 'ballyreen' from may right through to november... but weather seems to be a major factor in the fishing around the areas

Usually not reliable this time of year. But it was a nice day and I just tried it. There was 4 others fishing in the area and none seemed to catch anything.
But I am not going to give up, will try again next Saturday if the weather is half decent.
