People: me

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: coming in to high

Weather: fine, no clouds, close to frost, light breeze, didn't check the moon

Bait: frozen mackerel

Rigs: 2 hooks flapping

Results: pollack, whiting, rockling

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Nice evening, gave it a go despite the blanks I had off there in the last weeks. Started off immediately with the rocklings. I don't know where they all come from but when ever I dip my rod in Killala bay in recent days I catch some form of Rockling. Had a good one of 40cms and a miniature one of less than 10 but I'm afraid he didn't survive my release: he hooked himself thru the eye and taking the hook out I kept his eye and parts of his brain.
So if anyone sees a three bearded rockling swimming circles: Thats him!

Then I hooked the whitings, a fairsized one and a small chap, release both of them, too.

Finally I got the small Pollack and he wasn't worth keepin either.

All in all: 5 rigs and leads gone, two packs of Skittles and a can of Coke gone, but confidence and experience gained. Good evening and I won't complain! At least I didn't blank again!

fair play to ya, always nice to end a run of blanks :-)

what did you get the rocking on?

tried balderg harbour, got there at high tide (later than planned, the road is dire) nice spot but no luck

also gave inniscrone an hour on the way back

one good knock on the conger rod, that eventually came back with a very kinked and broken trace,

other than that blankety blank again

it was as dark as it can get in a night on Lacken Pier with two 500W lights overhead ;)

And I got the Rocklings onMackerel. The wee feller took a piece of Mac twice the size of his head

depends on the size of the hook - but sometimes those rockling are suicidal the way the hook themselves - always impress me with the size of a hook with bait and all - that theyll take on!

sometimes there is nothing you can do when a fish is badly hooked :?
