Ballycotton, Co Cork 05/02/2007

Tue Feb 06, 2007 11:11 am

People: Myself and Vjaceslavs

Duration: 19.30 - 22.00

Tide: HW

Weather: Calm and cold

Bait: sandeel, mackerel, crab

Rigs: feathers (crazy Latvian :? ), 2 hook 1/0 rigs

Results: 3 whiting, 1 coalie (all small)

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Braved the construction site that is Ballycotton pier at the moment. Had some great fishing down there in the past (it's a favourite of Vjaceslavs' - any time he's been down there it's been excellent fishing -e.g. shoals of mackerel one December, shoals of 4/5lb coalies swimming off the end of the pier - hence the feathers he tried last night). Haven't been down for about two years and unfortunately the magic was gone for him any way.
Casting close into the pier at the edge of the lights seemed to be the spot last night (20/30 yds maybe). Not many bites and think it's the first time I've never caught a dogfish down there.
Must be living in Ireland too long as the cold is starting to get to me, so we called it an early night and headed home.

Really sorry to hear that. I was intending to fish it a few times later in the year. I hope it picks up again for the summer.
