The quays at Youghal - 30th Jan

Wed Jan 31, 2007 1:40 pm

People:Me and mate Mark

Duration:3hrs

Tide:Flooding

Weather:Calm & cool

Bait:Crab, razor and lug

Rigs:1 hook (2/0) clipped

Results: Small coalies & codling

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Pretty dour session with probably no more than a dozen fish between us. Nothing was any bigger than 3/4lb but there did seem to be lots of small fish about as we both missed a fair few bites.

Another lad fishing below was doing ok and I seen him winch a few better codling up onto the wall as we were getting ready to leave. Interestingly he was using frozen shop bought prawn :wink:

Having attended a Munster Council executive meeting on thursday night the subject on fishing on Youghal bridge was brought up by the safety officer Jackie O'Keeffe. The bridge is under repairs at the moment and it seems anglers are fishing in very unsafe condetitions. I'd ask anglers not to fish off the bridge until it is fully opened. Fished the estuary above the bridge on thursday and had plenty of cod in the 30-35cm range.
