People:me and dave
Duration:1900-2100
Tidehw @ 1800
Weather:fairly frosty with a light w/sw breeze, died away to nothing by the time we left.
Bait:frozen mackeral and salted lug
Rigs:2 hook boom flappers and 3/0 pulleys
Results:3 whiting
Catch and Release:: kept the 3 whiting as they were deeply hooked and were gonna freeze them down to use as bait for huss in the summer
Report:only decided to try the pier as we had to go to bantry for "official" business. was a beautiful evenin to get out and was a pleasure to fish under a stary sky, cant honestly remember the last night we did.nothing really to report, the bay is alive with pin whiting which were stripping our baits in minutes but nice to see a few bites and as they say "you can only catch whats in front of you". did disturb a pretty big fish with my head torch next to the pier, dont think it was a seal as it wasnt that big but who knows. interestingly one of the whiting which must have only been 6 inches long managed to be fairly hooked in its mouth on a size 6/0 cox and rawl meat hook
oh and i do not wish to begin a debate on the pros and cons of keeping undersized fish for bait. all were hooked to deeply and i would prefer to see fish like this kept for bait etc than just thrown back to float down the tide.
