Report:Happy new year to all from Westport, Just a quick post to let you know that Mulranny peir is closed to the public, and probably will be for the forseeable future. The recent weather has punched a 5 X 10 meter hole smack bang in the middle of it!! The local council have said that they have plans to repair it, so it should be ready in time for my 40th birthday. I'm 28.

Rush job is right, i'll bet i wont get a cast off it this year at all! alternative venues in the area are: the beach at Mulranny is just around the corner, its a good spot, and curran is about another 5 mins down the road. All other Clew bay peirs are intact as far as i know, I'll keep you guys informed if there are any changes.

Hi
The pier was never that good anyway!
Short of the village take the turn for the golf course. If your axles can handle it, drive past the car park (avoiding the golf balls) all the way out to the coast. The beach here is good for flats, the odd ray and bass (no seriously there is at least one bass in Mayo and he visits here regularly!) and dogfish, huss and even sea trout. Further east, there is a series of small lugworm filled coves. After the last one, there is a boulder strewn beach which gives deep water at low water for bull huss and thornies...
