Report:

Headed to Garryvoe after a fruitless hour or so at De Wall. Whilst waiting for phanover to arrive I took a spin up the beach. In front of the hotel was near flat calm, however there appeared to be a lot more movement in the water further up the beach, past the caravan park. It also appeared to be deeper with some patches of rough ground so it was here that we ended up.

Casting large baits as far as possible and fishing multiple fishy type baits closer in to target the coalies was to be the order of the day for me. Got off to a cracking start with a fine birdsnest on the mag elite after having forgotten I'd re oiled the bearings and taken half the mags and the brake blocks out and loaded to the rim with new line...... Joy!

Fishing was quiet until darkness but after dark it sort of switched on a bit, I had 6 fish in a couple of hours. The wind was really getting up, blowing from right to left and was making it difficult to detect bites but lowering the tripod and pointing rods away from the wind helped things. It seems to have been windy and rainy every time I have set foot on a beach this past few months and I'm actually starting to enjoy a good battering... :D

The codling all fell to razor cocktails fished at distance, the coalies all took mack strip tipped with fine strips of squid. Codling were all around the 2lb mark, Coalies were 26, 32 and 36cm.

We were joined by Chris Lipinski, AKA Billy the Bass and a couple of his buddies for an hour or two at the end of the evening but the fishing had at that stage unfortunately switched off. It got to just after 9 and midst driving rain, time was called on the evenings exploits and off we went.

Hi Pete,
Were you the only one to catch anything?

I think one of Chris's mates had a coalfish but that was the sum total Im afraid. Disappointing for Steve as it was his first time fishing off a sandy beach and it would have been nice for him to catch a fish. Conditions werent helpful for anyone not used to fishing in a gale.
