People: Me & Roger
Duration: 11am - 5pm
Tide: outgoing and then on the way back in.
Weather: F-f-f-freezin', very windy, the odd very light shower.
Bait: Lug, squid & mackeral
Rigs: Pulleys & 2 hook bombs
Results: 1 Dab, whiting, whiting and more whiting.
Catch and Release:: Yes (but the seagulls managed to get a few unfortunately).
Report: Went out to Howth to relieve the New Years day boredom.
The wind would cut you in half and despite several thin layers of clothes still very cold. Optimistic as always that we would catch something worth a photo at least. Second cast of the day caught a small dab and then lots of whiting, catching two at a time on every other cast.
All quite small, after a while it all got a bit repetitive and you could tell by the bites it was more whiting. Put bigger hooks on making it hard for them to get hooked but they just stripped the the bait instead.
On a positive note though, not another person in site all day and absolute peace & quite apart from the howl of the wind and the occasional subdued cry of "not another whiting" :) .
