Hear tell that Garryvoe is throwing up a few recently - haven't tried it tho...

De Wall doesn't look great at the moment. Took a drive down that way this afternoon, there were only 4 anglers there and it didn't look like anyone had caught anything. I think heading further East either Thursday or Friday would be a better option.

Qiuck head count shows a good few anglers are heading to Garryvoe thursday night. The place is is fishing well at the moment.

The wall was netted again wednesday morning and the net was pulled wednesday evening. Sadly there is no law against this type of fishing, but it is my intention to put a stop to it. For this to happen I'll need the suppport from anglers all over this island. Went to to de wall wed afternoon met lads forn Dublin and the north who have traveled down for a few days to fish there.

The wall was netted again wenesday. The net was put out in the morning and pulled in the evening. There is no law aginst this type of fishing.
Met a few anglers from Dublin and from the north who were staying in a B&B in Carragline for 4 nights. This was revenue into the area.
Should this be lost because local boat men want drinking money.
Cork harbour has a hugh tourist web but sadly the goverment are blind to this.
It is my intention to nane and shame these boat men

The hotel and b & b oweners must wake up and realise the revenue that is out there from sea angling. We need these people to fight our cause.

Anywhere in particular to head for Donal at Garryvoe? I've never fished it and planned heading up that way this evening.

Hi Pete
Will be fishing in front of the hotel. Good reports back from Joe Muir who fished it last night.

Thu Dec 28, 2006 3:31 pm

Will see you there later on I'm sure. Heading there in next hour or two for the evening.

Went to de wall to meet up with the lads down for the xmas.
Got there around 11 o'clock to watch two boats (cu*ts in punts) pulling their nets. One down by the tunnel and the other up near the ferry crossing. Still plenty of good size fish coming in. No scratching down there this morning.

that netting pressure is very disapointing donal - good luck with the name and shame

Thu Dec 28, 2006 10:17 pm

just been off the phone with the guys you were with talking to donal, they are friends of mine.
they were saying that the fishing was going well and that they were enjoying themselves as they do every xmas they go down there......the only way to keep local tourist economies going well is to shame these netters who are intent on wrecking ti for the wider community, good luck with the venture.

I have posted a new topic in the Q & A

I have posted a new report in the Q & A forum regarding Cork harbour and the rape and pillage of these important breeding grounds.

It's time to say stop.

Fished Garryvoe in nasty nasty weather this evening from 5.15 to 8.30. Fished directly in front of the hotel and had 4 codling, biggest was 60cm and weighed just over 5lbs. I could only get frozen bait and they all came to huge black lug and razor cocktails on 4/0 pulley pennels. Had enough of the horizontal rain and buggered off home.

...Hi pete, sounds like i had a lucky escape on the weather front :) i was supposed to head down that direction today but was badly left down for a lift off a mate  still fish were caught so it wasn't a total waste of a trip for ye :) .I still haven't caught on this beach yet(normally fished it on the way to somewhere else and during the day  )

Well done Pete, you lasted long than I did, real crap conditions. You should have mentioned that is was comming in head on 30-40mph

Looks like back to de wall in the morning

Fri Dec 29, 2006 11:21 am

It was that bad you had to cast with your eyes closed, open them and you were blinded with rain. Savage stuff in fairness. Had no idea where my casts were ending up, casting a large bait off a multiplier into that wind was no fun, no fun at all. Still, nobody told the fish that.... It reminded me of Tramore all over again. Nice beach though, I look forward to tackling it again in better conditions. Does this beach suffer much from weed after a good blow Donal?

Fri Dec 29, 2006 3:26 pm

~Thanks lads for the heads up on how de wall is fishing for the netsmen ! looks like in this blow options will be limited though. Anyone think east ferry is worth a throw?

Fri Dec 29, 2006 7:35 pm

There were Cod to be had during the ebb at De Wall today. Unfortunately, for me that is, they all seemed to have Donal Domeneys name on them with a spell that saw 4 fish to 4 casts...... Next time....
