Derry and Myself:

5-10:

HW at 6pm:

Calm and cold:

Lug, Fresh peeler, squid and razor:

Pulleys and 1 up 1 down portsmouth loops:

Alot of coalies to 2.5lbs, 4 Codling to 2.5lbs, a 12 lb conger and a dogfish:

yes and no:: Yes/No

We arrived at Garyvoe about 4.30 and were joined by Gerry and Con from Tralee. We had heard of good reports over the previous few weeks when the seas and weather were rough. We had Cod on our minds but conditions were far from ideal. The sea was flat calm with little or no surf or wind. Once darkness fell the rod tips started jumping as we reeled in coalie after coalie. Not what we were after but welcome all the same.

HW was about 6pm and the coalies kept coming until around 7.30 until all went quite. I decided to put out one large bait to see could I entice a codling. I proceeded to load a 2/0 pulley pennel with 6 lug and tipped off with a fresh peeler. I proceeded to wind up for the big one but a miss-timed cast shot 60 yds to my right. I decided to leave it there thinking a bass might pick it up. Five minutes later I started to get a good bang and I had a lot of weight on, a bass I thought so I turned off my headlamp and proceeded to eventually land the fish that I was full sure would be a good bass, as it turned out it was a 12lb conger lip hooked. Where did he come from.

I had my first codling at about 8pm followed by two more over the next couple of hours. They took lug tipped with fresh peeler and lug tipped with squid. They ranged in size from 2 - 2.5 lbs. Derry also landed a nice codling around the 2lb mark on a lug squid combo. The codling were scare on the night with 3 other anglers alongside us failing to get into contact with any.

It was an enjoyable nights fishing and thanks to Derry for the lift down. I think the wind is due to pick up a bit by the middle of next week, which would be more favorable conditions for Garyvoe. I might be back then

How are ya john. Good session considering the conditions. That place throws up plenty of strap congers with the odd bigger one.

Did you fish to the left or right of the the promanade in front of the hotel.
Been fishing to the right, close to the pipe, and I'm having good results there.

Hi Donal,

about 100 yards to the left of the pipe. The weather is due to break next thursday so I might give it another go next weekend.
