Report:

A Club Fun Comp had been arranged for today but all of the club anglers travelled to Carnlough Beach fearing the dreaded abandonment of the session.

We arrived at Carnlough to scene of near devastation on the beach. We were greeted with the site of weed all over the main road, even on the footpath opposite the railings   and weed at least a foot deep on the beach. The wind was howling and we decided that this venue was unfishable.

The club had already booked a local hostelry for some soup and sarnies afterwards so we had to kill at least 4 hours.

A decision was taken to have a look at Glenarm Beach, we met up in the car-park where some anglers had already set up, the small bay at Glenarm seemed pretty calm but the wind was still pushing hard at our backs. After some deliberation, we decided to give it a go for a few hours and see how we got on.

To everyone's amazement, once we got onto the beach, we were sheltered from the wind and the fishing was comfortable and calm - I even had to take my coat off at one point because I was too warm   .

My very fist cast resulted in a flounder at 29cms and soon enough every angler was hauling in their first fish. The action was continious all night with the top rod landing over ten fish.

I finished up with the flounder and a dog for 6th spot.

1st - J Snoddy
2nd - S Hewitt
3rd - R McLaughlin

A special mention goes to the bro for a 46cm coalie which caused havoc with at least 3 angler's lines because we were pegged close together

The weather remainded calm all night - a real surprise because as I type this report, I can hear wheelie bins travelling up and down the street outside :D

A great night was had by all and rounded off with a lovely bowl of soup, countless egg and onion sarnies and a few scoops of the Black Stuff (god help the co-workers in the office tomorrow   )

All the best....

JUDE

Yes Jude (GG) really enjoyed last night even though I wasn't feeling 100%. I feel it went down well with the anglers who stuck it out. I noticed the dogs were quite small on some occasions compared to the normal average size.

Sorry about the wee thing at the end of the evening were you had to mention the bait rent. It's not like me at all to forget although I did have a lot on my mind at the conclusion.

The soup and sarnies went down a treat though I would hate to be trying to keep Conor  Did you see the amount of food he put away  Fairplay to him he's a growing lad.

Cheers N&G - no worries on the rent mate.

Conor then tried to eat the Box of Chocs he won on the way home..... I had to liberate them from him - I think he has worms you know....

sounds like a good session Jude i know the feeling when your going to fish one place you have all the bait for that beach and you cant fish it. but it turned out OK in the end some of the best session's i had were like that i have noticed that glenarm has a lot of small dogfish about it at the min. glenarm is always a safe bet like your always sure of a doggie or too a bit of crack :D

Not last night pete   , Sean was too rough from Sat night and he was driving too - I didn't see a wee flask all night.....

I managed a couple of pints of Giunness on the way home which didn't even touch the sides.....

But I am sure the Balck Sambucca will be appearing on a beach near you soon....
