Hairy, i have been reading this forum for months now. Nice to hear you got a few fish on your travels up round our way. Were the whiting any size?
I met you and Drew (i believe) one night on waterfoot pier when it was blowing a gale recently. You fished round the back of the wall because it was so windy. I didn't realise who you were at the time otherwise i would have spoken to you.
Don't take this the wrong way, but why are you guys so preoccupied with catching a bass? Sure the're nice fish, but the reality is (despite what some may believe) that there simply are not the same numbers of these fish on the north coast. Therefore, if you seriously want to catch a reasonable number of these you would need to put in many hours fishing and getting to know the area, tides etc. I have done this myself and have caught a number of these fish here and across the border and realised after a while that there are better fighting (and tasting) fish around.
Certainly, for a better return for your efforts i believe that you are better to stick at the whiting, codling etc (whats left of them anyway).
Just my opinion..

No mate point taking i just want to widen my species list theres still loads in the sea i havnt yet even caught or witnessed caught and yes i will continue with my obbsession untill i get bored  ......the whiting were all really tiny BTW i would say the East Strand would be a great summer venue must keep it in mind for the warmer months...Nice meeting you BTW :D

Hairy, you've got a PM.
East Strand/ Whiterocks for me was often the first place i used to head to in the Autumn. I've had Whiting, Dabs, Flounder, Coalies, Plaice, Turbot, Dogs, Conger, Weaver  and yes i have heard of the occasional B*ss as well. Best fished Sep to Jan imo.
Probably run into you again down the east coast (or elsewhere 8) ) someday soon :D

Think I bounded past you with a surfboard that day.
Ive proabbly stood on more fish out there than ive caught.
I was at portstewart last night beachcasting for 3 hrs 6-9 falling from high and caught a wee flounder. It felt like i had things take my line a few times but with inexperience i am unsure whether it was just the rough sea.
I talked with fella who caught some nice turbot and a bass from east strand on sunday. Still no bass myself either but id be happy with a nice juicy flatty
