Report:I got there early and set up to await any other possible anglers off the forum for the Dublin meet. Croppy showed around 1730 having been in another car park for half an hour.

Small fish started to show early on and I thought that we would have a good bit of action, It turned out to be a slow night with a lot of bites from small fish. Croppy got a nice coalie around 2130 and I got the cod around 2230 on mackerel. I got a decent pollock of about 1 lb on my last cast.
We had 5 species between us, Probably somewhere around 18 fish.
Codling, whiting, pollock, coalfish and dab. Surprise no dogs.

that's some good fishin! how big were the whiting!! i am gettin twitchy! any rough ground where you were fishin- usually clean there. what range codling at?

Sun Nov 19, 2006 1:45 pm

M.B.3 past sessions tell me that cod are only really caught near the rough stuff, but after a good easterly they always venture out on to the clean ground around the car park near the reefs. shankills your best bet to find one. i going there today i let you know how i get on. all i have is sandeels and frozen lug, which has worked off the boat for cod but havn't tried it of the shore is it any good?

Sorry for not getting back earlier. First we only had one coalie which was caught in close. The whiting were small on our end of the beach biggest around 10 inches. St John we saw the lights up the far end and I thought we may have been in the wrong place. You seem to have had a better time of it. We fished at the car park as I had been advised that this was a good area to start. I dont know the beach at all but where we were was clean ground.

sandeel probably better on calmer nights, but worth a shot. mussel can be good- take better whiting on it for some reason. crab would be the man!

clean ground up were i was to main reason i went out thursday was to work on my distance cast but when i found the fish biteing at close range it put an end to that, got a big bite early on nearly pulled rod out of my hands only had size 1 and 4s on trace so reckon maybe a whiting took my bait and a small tope probally took the whiting either way will be heading to killiney again.

Hiya, just wondering if you brought along the new cormoran rod and if so how did it perform, or if Pat had a go how did you find it? 8)

Croppy had the rod allright and he is happy with it. It was hard to see how it is performing in the dark, I didnt try it out but I did hold it. For me it is a bit softer than I would like. I am sure Croppy will let you know in due course. He only gets to the PC on certain days.
