People: myself and Uncle C

Duration: 2 hours

Tide: Flowing

Weather: Overcast, breezy, from the west

Bait: Crab

Rigs: simple PN

Results:4 wrasse

Catch and Release:: 50%

Report:

Fished in view of Slyne Head, very exposed. Heavy swell made life fairly difficult. Had to leave early due to the heave. Got to see highlights in from Croker later, neither event was a classic I think :? :?

Yes what we kept is for the table. Couldn't get enough of them when I was younger yum yum! Don't forget that on the Aran Islands (and elsewhere) they traded their salty gunner (wrasse) for turf from the mainland in the not so distant past. I didn't know they're popular in Salthill Steve!

I mentioned before that Uncle C would be firmly of the old school, in fact for him there's only one school, you go fishing to catch fish for the table, the enjoyment is a bonus. When I was taught to fish for gunner we kept almost everything and gave surplus to neighbours, now I nearly always put gunner back.
