People: me and JC
Duration: 1900-2200
Tide: incoming
Weather: dry, cold and windy
Bait: rag and mackeral
Rigs: bomber and flapper
Results: 1 whiting, 1 scorpion fish
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report: decided to give portmuck a crack just for handiness.. as soon as the bait hit the water on the first cast the rod rattled and i hooked into a good fish, but at the last minute it fell off as i was lifting it up the side.. the only fish landed were a half pound whiting and a scorpion fish of the same size.. even though thats all we caught the bites were flatout. downsides were that the strength of the tide was powerful and the amount of weed in the water made it hard to fish. stopped at whitehead prom on the way home but two fellas were packing up and said they had the same problem with the weed and didnt catch anything apart from crabs so scrapped that plan and went for a pint instead

that was me and my dad on the prom, thought it was you as i was talking to stuartie when we were both digging bait and he said he thought you were heading to islandmagee instead of glenarm.
not much doing in w/head we started of at browns bay and it was covered in weed , so headed to ballygalley and it was worse and then called in to w/head on way home.
hope to bump into you again

arite rab! on the right night the prom can throw up some good fish.. was thinking of goin for a blast somewere tmro night.. was talking to a fella lives in the house at portmuck harbour and he was tellin me that there has been a trawler operating about a quarter of a mile offshore.. there is a big sandbank in that area so the chances are all the codling ect will have disappeared so thats there ruled out. might give browns bay a crack tmro night. tides not good but ya just never know what could turn up.. h\/fully get a better yarn with ya some other night.

4 trawlers!! it would nearly make ya sick! thers not much that would escape those nets. us anglers spend the winter chasing some half decent cod when in reality your lucky to get anything bigger than a fish finger.. i know a boat man who told me that half a mile out from whitehead is sandbank which can produce loads of cod. there musnt be anywere the trawlers dont go!

Just out of interest. Is there a legal limit to how close a trawler is allowed to fish near the shore? If there is, these trawlers should be reported :cry:
