Report:On a cracking afternoon we landed at Bunagee Pier and the action was ceaseless until we left.The fish were all around the 1lb mark with a few around 2lb which we took home,battered and ate,lovely.
Jake,my 11 year old son,took the biggest tally and fish of the day after a frantic shoot-out with my bro.
There was none of the usual bigger specimens to be had.The local crab potters couldn`t believe the number of fish we were returning and asked if we`d keep a few for them for bait for the pots,so any that were deeply hooked were put in a fish box for them.
Anyone any ideas what bait would single out the bigger coalies?

If they are there in those numbers mate it's just a case of catching what you can.

I have seen coalies taking size 3/0 & 4/0 hooks - therefore bigger baits don't help :shock: :shock:

When the coalies are swarming like that, they will take any bait you put out - even a bit of tin foil on a hook will work :shock:

Yes at this stage of the year they will devour anything in sight. Go to Sainsburys and get one of their seafood pots - it has mussles, squid, prawns etc in it.

Works a treat.

I know a guy from Kerry who brings a light course rod with him onto the beach and has great fun with the coalies when they are in they are supposed to be good sport
