Conger Meet Monkstown Wall

Myself, FishermanBob, and Seancelt

Bobby was first there round 7 as seancelt had no electricity and had to get his son ready in the dark. Oh yeah and there is the fact as well that he forgot his bait.hahaha!

Tide: heading out fast

Weather:Was watching the rain pour down all day, but thankfully by the time the lines were in the water not a cloud was in sight.

Bait: Pure macs

Rigs: Clip down pulley, and running ledger on boom for conger.

Results: one conger (7lb) and 2 lsds

Catch and Release:: Always release



The weather turned out to be great, light breeze and no rain. Have not been that comfortable during a session in a long while. Bobby was the first so arrive since he is a posh boy from the south side! Sean pulled up to my house for the first time at 7:15 quickly realised he forgot his bait and had to run back home, only a couple mins away.

Arrived to da wall round 7:45. The tide was flowing something savage(as is often the case for monkstown) Rigged up my gear and cast out to the right towards the rocks. Bobby was having trouble keeping bottom due to the current. even using 5oz gripping leads. Seancelt got rigged up and prepared to make his first cast and didn't the bail arm close during the swing and that was the end of that rig....well maybe not. That rig is probably the first rig to hook into one of the new resident cow sharks in the area. hahaha! we'll never know.

Seancelt and bobby both switched to 8 oz leads and bareley managed to hold bottom with that. My first cast managed to hold and resulted in my half mackeral bait being bitten in half. Placed a fresh bait in the same spot and finally got that bite I had been waiting for. pulled in a nice 7 pound conger. The rest of the night was quite slow. tried a few different spots, but only managed to catch two lsd not of any size.

Bobby put in a great effort and showed why he is now revered for his patience, but even that weared thin while waiting for a slower current and he headed home round 12. Can't blame him for throwing in the towel as even the few casts he was able hold bottom resulted in no takes, which is unusual for this mark.

Unfortunately Seancelt's son became cold and tired after about half an hour of fishing and had to cut their session short, but not to worry Seancelt you'll get out again soon!

Fair play lads, you got a fish or two anyway. More than can be said for my exploits at the weekend....

Personally I think my snap-off landed in Cobh but if it landed in the tide with the speed of that run it is well on its way to the South Atlantic. :D

seancelt, my fiancee works in the evening echo and she called me yesterday to tell me the front page headline..... It reads "Cobh apartment owner tramatised by 5oz lead weight crasing through window in middle of the night"

Yeah, that reminds me, Ais mentioned something bout that as well. i guess u havn't hooked the first cow shark after all. maybe next time with the line still atached to ur reel! aaaahhhh hahaha!!!

If it was still attached to my reel it would never have gone that far. :lol: :lol:
