skerries is on past swords on the motor way... turn off is after the dona bate one, drive right in to town center then go left for harbour or rocks at red island (i think) or left for rocks on north strand... never see anyone else fishin down ther at all.. except for mackerel... which were good and big down there this year... it can throw out the odd nice whiting aswell, some very well informed locals down there, theyll point you in the right direction haha ;)

Hi Nialler,

Good info there, Ive fished Skerries a good bit this summer stocking up the freezer with macki bait for the coming winter. I have to say the mackerel were all good sizes too :P

Was it near the bathing area you were fishing? Just wondering because I found it quite snaggy and could only fish it at low water with long casts.

I was thinking of giving it bash soon for other species. Any hints or tips, i.e. best tides, bait or rigs? PM me if you like.

Cheers M8t.

hi
where were u fishing at t rocks at the captins or spring boards?

Tue Oct 24, 2006 12:34 pm

i was fishing off the rocks to the left of the north strand... (go to the harbour and look left to the other end of the shingle beach) was quite suprised because even tho it was just about high tide its still quite a shallow spot, round at the swimming hole between the shore and red island is deep but extremly snaggy. youll need a good long cast... the mackerel have cleared off i think... but there was some big big mackerel caught down there this year... bout the only mackerel spot left round dublin thats not fished to death an littered with old tackle ( yeah im talkin bout balscadden haha) not sure about what species youll pull out.. but iv heard of decent sized pollack and wrasse, whitting in season... ther is doggies around but you wont get plagued by them... quite a few seals tho but there usually well fed off the prawn an crab boats, the shouldint cause you much trouble, happy fishin lads

hey there kk where wer u at hoar rock or infront of mourn view?

Fri Oct 27, 2006 9:49 am

Hoar rock, but nailler knows where to go and what tide is best, i gave it ago at low water in the dark and not much happening, looks a good spot with a better tide doh.
Red island looks good too nice deep water there if ya can get over the rocks and theres always codling around those islands so there bound to be around the hole area
