Kiliney Beach & Dunlaoighaire 14/10/06

Mon Oct 16, 2006 10:40 am

People: Me, Roger Magarth & Stefan from Slovakia

Duration: 4 hours Kiliney & 4 hours Dunlaoighaire Pier.

Tide: Incoming in Kiliney and high then going out on the pier

Weather: Loverly, bit windy but no rain...hooray.

Bait: Rag, sandeels, mackeral.

Rigs: bombs & pulleys

Results: Not even a bite in Kiliney. 3 LSD, 7 Mackeral, 9 small whiting off the pier.

Catch and Release:: Kept the mackeral for eating and bait.

Report: Headed off to Kiliney to give Stefan a crash course in shore fishing (he had never fished before). I don't speak Slovakian and he speaks very little english but we managed to communicate with gestures and drawings in the sand. He had only seen the sea & waves on TV before, he even rang his family back in Kosice and held his mobile to sea so they could hear the waves crashing in. Took some pics of him too for him to send home.

Sadly Kiliney wasn't up to much not even the little coalies that normally turn up. Determined to make sure we got something packed up and went to Dunlaoighaire, which is now a mackeral basher free zone at last.
Very quite for the first hour then Roger to relieve the boredom decide to stick on some "hot hooks" to see if there was still any macks around, caught 3 over half an hour or so. Stefan got a double mack catch on sandeel and them two singles on mackeral & sandeel. As the tide cleared the "shelf" the dogs came Roger got 2 , Stefan 1. As it started to get dark lots of little whiting biting, quick little fish that can strip a hook in seconds.

Anyway a good day was had by all even though I blanked.
