donaghadee pier and orlock point 15/10/06

Sun Oct 15, 2006 1:32 pm

People:me and tommy

Duration:6am-11am

Tide:dropping tide.

Weather:as rough as a badgers b***bag!

Bait:mackerel strips

Rigs:basic paternoster and sliding float

Results:4 coalfish, 8 pollock and a small codling

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:we were just planning the usual trip to orlock but seeing it was so dark we thought we'd give the dee pier a throw until it got light. it was horrific weather, waves were hitting the wall and spraying all round us. we had to keep the rods in r hands for bite detection also. i have to say we both had plenty of bites but it resulted in just 1 coalie and a small codling. so we took off to orlock for more action and first cast each r floats went under, 2 pollock. for the next hour the floats were going under every cast but after that things went pretty quiet. i have to get back to orlock to fish the rising tide.

firstly welcome to the forum drewk, i've talked to u on another forum in relation to browns bay. the dee pier will fish well from now thru the winter its just that the wee buggers will rattle the rod all day so its hard to get thru to the bigger fish but u will have plenty of action. orlock is different, there is always the possibility of a good fish and there is a good variety of species off it. i was fishing off a wee spot i like off the rocks, not too sure how the beach fishes but i'm sure it would be worth a throw. if u want a blast at the congers then bangor pier is fishing well. ronald and davy from this forum have been catching well. and there is also the chance of a specimen rockling like the one ronald is holding in the photo. i've had great fun with the doggies this season from helens bay. just fish the rocks next to the beach. i hope this helps mate.
