Report:overall a good day, caught some decent fish and managed to land my first decent bass and 2nd biggest fish of my local beach( previously lost a 8lb huss at my feet when landing it by a breaker). flyer rig prooved its value again when fished at about 10 yards from the shore with a king wrag on a size 4 hook intended for flounders and dabs.the bass was returned to fight again . only managed two doggies at distance .other fishermen on the beach told me of reports of bass up to 7lb during the week at dusk into night, also reports of decent colies up to 2lb at night. a bit different to last week when i blanked.

fair play Gazo. good to hear of few decent coalies too. the flyer will get you coalies if you bait it with mussel.

Jon you can make a flyer easy. flyer is just a lenght of line with a hook on the end. a large snap link swivel at the top allows you to clip it onto your line after you cast. the flyer then slides down your line and into the sea, usually at close enough range. using a lead of at least 1oz on the flyer makes things easier.

What are the advantages of the flyer

it lets you fish another bait in shallow among the breakers.
you can use them on deep water too and attach to your mainline via a bubble float . what you do is cast out your main rig and then attach a half filled bubble float onto the main line via a snap link, now clip your flyer line to the other side of the bubble float (i tend to use 5-6 feet of line) with your chosen bait on.
the bubble will float just where your mainline meets the water and you will pick up gar , bass macks and the like.

flyer is just a lenght of line with a hook on the end.
How long would this lenght be? You would only use a Flyer in calm conditions I take it?

Well done on the bass. Killiney is my local beach and is underrated. There is a good population of bass there from April-November. When the water is clear the best way to catch them is on a plug.
There are also dogs, codling, coalies, wrasse to be caught regularly.

Lovely bass mate,
stan what part of the beach holds the bass, do they run the whole length or are they localised up around the rocks passed the white house.

Thanks for the tip on the flyer method, tried it last night on Greystones and had 3 bass around the 1.5 - 2lb mark between two of us.
