Genetic Abnormality? :?

just after reading on a website that i cant find again :? :?
that flounder and other species that are coloured on both sides is due to a recessive gene being dominant in the fish which can also cause fish to have 2 sets of eyes (Oneset on each side), and even to the point that the fish isn't flat but round...

i think that was just pollution in the lough that made them look like that  ...its supposed to be getting clean again though :D

Get quite a few like that here in Ne England. Sometimes the colour on the white side is just blotches. There was a student at Newcastle University a while back who was doing a study and was having the details sent to her. Don't know if she came up with anything else other than the genetic defect.

thought it was the pollution too hc! but as u say its getting alot cleaner. i've seen sea trout and salmon actively jumping around this summer, maybe not in big numbers but they were there. i think that says it all to how much cleaner the area is finally getting.

i would guess that its ectopic overexpression of pigmentation genes due to inheritnace of some rare recessive allele either that or a point or deletion mutation in the genes of the skin cells from some recombination error during the embryonic state or exposure to an external mutagen.
yes thats right i am a geneticist har har.

rephrased so the rest of us can understand:
i wudd guess dat its eckopic obehexpresshun of pigminashun genes due t' inhehitnace of some rare recessibe allele eideh dat or a poit or deleshun mutashun in de genes of the, ERRRR, skin cells from some recombinashun ehror durigg the, uh, embryonic state or exposure t' an extehnal mutagen.
