Report:
I have decided to target bass for the next few months and on the strength of this first outing - it will be a long few months
Tried Benone early (for me anyway) on Sunday along with the the bro and nephew - what a disappointment - 2 very small flounder. Again I was talking to a few anglers who told me that I should be at 'such and such a spot' or 'you should have been here last week' - always the same story at this mark :( :( Still - these things take time.
We packed up and headed to Red Bay via a very hairy mountain road form Ballymoney to Cushendall - anyone that knows this road will know what I mean
We got to the Ledge and I got out of the car to survey the scene, I spotted a sizeable fish rising out of the water about 50 yards in front of us, it looked like a Bass or Sea Trout - very silver in colour. This got my hopes up considerably..... I then proceeded to blank!!!!
A day worth forgetting me thinks.....

im always told by the bass guys to fish those beaches on the north coast for bass over the low tide in darkness for your best chance although some are taken in daylight

If you ever see any Bass on Benone/North Coast please let me know.... :( Spent another fruitless session last night with perfect bait - tide was wrong though..

Apparently the castlerock side is better? I was told the spot to fish is were the bungalow/cottage sits sidways to the sea at the end of the sea front parking area. Walk behind this and up onto the flat rocks behind it. It is a nice spot to fish and very comfortable. There is a gully out in front of you about 50-70yards you cast into that? I've only fished it once and had plenty of dogs etc but no bass that evening, anyway it might be worth a throw there.

Divide your rod hours by the number of bass you have taken on Benone Im sure there is a lot of time spent for not a great reward
Ther is far better marks to go to than Benone / Downhill for bass

Bass boy, is there a particular spot on the beach that fishes better than the rest? Where on the beach do you fish?

hi there.i have fished from magilligan point right up to down hill and I've found there ain't no part that fishes better than the others.I've had fish in flat calms. pick any spot and as long as there's a half decent surf, give it a try,you should get a result..as for baits lug or rag it dont matter, but i can guarantee,if you aint getting fish, you aint doing nothing wrong, they just aint there..hope this helps.regards ivan
