between listening to drew and your report it sounds like a good wee spot for doggies anyway. i heard bulldog mention some rocks to fish from, this interests me more than the pier. definately gonna give round here a blast, i think i'll just pick out a spot that looks good, i've stumbled across the best of spots this way. :)

Bulldog, I fished the pier both days, don't like the rocks when its wet or dark, but have fished right round to the man made a few times.

sounds like the beach would be worth a shout. i'm not to clued up about ballyhalbert just drove thru it once or twice. i'm definately gonna fish more at the Down coastline this year than previous and as u say drew, experiment a bit.

Drew, I know of at least one night session from that same beach area which produced a nice 3lb cod, I have also spoken to a couple of young lads fishing the beach who were on holiday from Belfast, they said that they have caught cod, dogfish and flatties from the beach as the tide was coming in.
At high tide you could probably pop a 50yd cast into 6-10 feet of water, depending on tide height, the ground is rocky (small rocks, not huge beasties) in some parts and sandy in others, if you go to the extreme left with the caravan park behind you, you will be into serious tackle losing country, so I would avoid that area.
Best bet would be to take a trip to Ballyhalbert to get a good look at the ground you'll be fishing over.
I walk my dogs down there all the time but tbh I don't see a lot of people fishing there.

that is the thing bulldug, the down coast is seriously unexplored by fishermen apart from the usual spots. i've said before that people just don't fish r coastline like they do the antrim coast and there is no doubt there is potentially great fishing spots that nobody has bothered trying. i say experiment a bit and if u stumble on a good area post a report on it. there has gotta be more shoremarks around down that aren't featured on this sites homepage.

Fished the pier last night from 10 till after 1.30 and only got dogs. Some guys were float fishing and got a few baby coalies/pollack. Will probably be packed on Sunday with jet skis/ kids/boats and people fishing. Looks like good weather, so better usually to avoid when like this. I will be at the beach behind Ballywalter bowling club from about 12 and will post what i find. Anyone wanting to join in is welcome.
