Report:
Myself + friend (Gareth) hired the services of Cortaz to guide us on the Cunnigar for the day.
Drove down from Dublin Saturday morning & headed out for some spinning at low water about 12 with
the plan to return later to bait fish high water.

It was a difficult day with a strong offshore wind, not a great tide & heaps of floating weed.

We fished with bass bullets & tobys & struggled for the first few hours then I got a hit on a small
Toby, landed my first ever bass - a nice 4 pounder shortly afterwards.

Gareth got a hit next & landed a Bass of about 3lb.
I hit another fish, probably about 2.5lbs & just as I had him close he ran & snap went my line
& my lovely small toby went with it. (Don't use 8lb line here!!)
Gareth lost another fish & that was about it. Cortaz didn't catch as his reel kicked the bucket
Halfway through the session & his wading was 'compromised' with his leaky waders.

Headed out for some bait fishing in the evening & we didn't get anything, very few fish moving & again
masses of floating weeds made life difficult. Raised a couple of fish on a flying C but no takers.
Headed over to helvic pier for a bit of bait fishing & conditions werent great there with the same
wind & floating weed causing headaches.
Gareth got a small coalfish & small codling & we packed up for some boozing after a couple of casts.

So we had a fair few calamities between us:
- I broke a new spinning rod, drowned my nice Seiko watch & lost my only 'lucky' toby
- Cortaz broke his new shimano reel & got a soggy crotch from a hole in his waders
- Gareth broke a ring on his rod & got scalded with coffee when I had to moose test my jeep due to a loony on the road

BUT we both got the Bass that we came down for which was more than worth it!!

We'll be back next year with some braid & plenty of small tobys!
Thanks to Cortaz for his excellent help & advice, he tried everything to put us in touch with some fish.

P.s. - Stayed in a fantastic B&B called Gortnadiha house 5 minutes from the Cunnigar - highly recommended.

-Patrick.

Hi Ferg,
Were there more fish moving on the surface the following night?
Was hard going when we were there.. But sure its just sods law.
Did ye get any more after we left for Helvic?

We hope to get down earlier in the year next year for a few trips to get the best out of it.
Poor Cortaz barely got to drown your bass bullet as his shimano kicked the bucket early in the session. Couldnt believe the size of those things - could use the treble as an anchor!

Nice to meet you & hopefully see you down there again next year.
