Killybegs Harbour - 22 August

Tried various spots in the harbour for mullet but didn't see a single fish, typical...everywhere when your not fishing them and then the dissappearing act when you go to catch em!

Put ground bait bags down of minced mackerel, bread and catfood......would have made a tempting sandwhich spread. Fished float but instead of the mullet I got 6 tiny pollock and a solitary dogfish which put up a great fight on the feeder rod :roll: This mullet crack is going to take a bit of time me thinks.

Have you killed the parents, dumped the girlfriend and jacked in your job or what these days man? You dont seem to have put your rods down in the past couple of weeks!

Well pete, I went after the mullet in Killybegs last weekend, (Sat 19th Aug) I still havent put up the report and pics I have. the camera didnt make it back from Ireland yet!!! Will post the pics shortly, had one mullet about 3lb, some big buggers cruising about, I was happy to land one, small and all as he was. One thing I noticed and was told is that they only take on the going tide, this was true as none of them were taking on the coming tide, and there were loads in the area. Very hard to see bites at distance and I think the floats were too heavy to move enough, as they dont take the bait and run, they just suck it in and out and once its in the mouth give it a little strike! I wouldnt of caught the bugger only I could see him. Good scrap for the size of him. Was using small mackerel chunks as bait, size 10 hook, a mackerel flapper in close to attract them as close as possible and tesco value cat food as ground bait, great stuff smells like s*#t, the mullet were going mad for this stuff, breaking water etc.

Tanglerat my phone is crocked so didn't have a number for you so hence the wall of silence :) Went out yesterday for a couple of hours after work, tried the tidal reaches of the Eske...group of up to 25 mullet milling about...watched my bread baited hook being pushed about their tails but not one looked at it like it might have been food...bloody frustrating :cry: Seen couple of salmon, they didn't want the bread either...fookin Irish Pride :evil:

I must try Killybegs again Mark, from what I hear they are used to takin mackerel so might have better luck than dealing with these bloody tidal mullet

Petekd you should send me up some of those Cork ragworm...I'd say they would sort em out :lol: !
