People:Me and the brother (Greg)
Duration:A couple of days
Tide:High night tides
Weather:Cloud, sun, rain, not much wind.
Bait:Rag, frozen lug, sand-eel, peeler, mackerel, razor and various lures
Rigs:sliding ledger and pennel
Results:Lots of mackerel, one pollack, one other species (like a mackerel but fatter and a rounder head - Anyone any ideas?)
Report:I was really hoping for a big bass. I got 3 or 4 really big takes on a half a mackerel bait but I couldn't hook whatever it was. I tried fishing the far end of the strand but it was impossible to fish it at the time I tried. It was a flooding tide and the current was vicious.

Hi John
You have to fish that with a plain lead and let it tumble along on a zip slider rig. It does work especially for the bass but its advisable to fish it on the neap and even then around high or better low water.
FWIW...

When down on the other side fishing here I was told that at low tide the rip stayed slack here for longer than at high tide and this was the time to try.

Its the right time of the year now for scad. Reminds me I must go and try and catch one of them before they dissappear again :)

Thanks lads,
I'll try that at a different state of the tide. I will also check out the species guide to see what I caught. I reckon it was a scad alright.
