LW : 15 bass between us

Camped overnight on the spit with the intention of getting the early high tide. Needn't have bothered. Same cold breeze killed the fishing again. Not a touch on the two lugs rods, so gave up about 9.30, and did some spinning with a silver toby at the carpark. One terrific hook up which came off after about 10 seconds.
Later that day, headed out to the oyster beds again for more of the same action as the previous day. Not so many fish showing as yesterday, but they were still there in force. Nothing close in but once I hit waist deep water (about 1.5 miles offshore in chest waders!!) started to hit the fish about 7 in all all weighing about 3-4 lbs. Also had about 10 'follows' and a good few missed fish as well. Cortaz seemed to be getting the bigger ones on bass bullets, but the quantity were on the tobys.
Took two home for the Sunday dinner which were delicious, and released all the rest.
Incidedently if anyone catches a big bass with a silver toby embedded in its jaw, you are now the proud owner of my lucky bass buster!

All in all an amazing two days fishing, about 13 bass in all, mostly around the 3-4 lbs weight with one toughing maybe 9lbs. Probably saw four times that many fish. Brings my bass total over the years to a brilliant 14 fish!

Many thanks to Cortaz for all the help in getting me among the bass, and providing me with some memories for life. Have already filled in the holiday forms for next month!!

Cracking shot..! I take it you were out in a boat..?

He was wading Eoghan. At low water you have to walk over a mile to the water. Then you wade to your knees (about 50 yards) and start to fish. Wait for the water to get you you nads. At this stage you will be surrounded by water with the sand being about 200 yards or more behind you. Wade back to knee depth and carry on like this till you are back where you parked the car :shock: Madness, but what a spot.....

I have a few marks that require you to stay out as witer rises. Hairy stuff..! One night the fishing was so good we stayed until close to darkness. We were fishing on sand bars and it took us ages to get in. I fell over and got drenched and a few of the lads did similar. We had close to 50 bass between 5 of us so was hard to leave.

Apologies to anyone of a sensitive nature for the posting of pictures of two dead bass, but at the risk of drenching my camera there could just as easily been pictures of 11 being returned. Also, on a positive note, now that I have had my first ever taste of wild bass I have no need ever again to take any more.

In terms of the safety of the place, I reckon I would have been drowned only for the sensible head of Cortaz, you don't want to be out there as an inexperienced angler as the water comes in around you very quickly and silently - you have maybe 20 minutes gap between safety and water up to your neck! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone without first getting a walkthrough from someone familiar with the place.

and not every place can be like cunnigar...

The guy in Duffys Angling shop said he's seem them there alright but at the same time didn't know what a bass bullet was... bit of a contradiction !
