Report:i have only ever tried for mullet a few times before but i was determined to get one this year so i`ve done alot of research and reading about them in the hope it would give me the best chance possible.
i had tried a mark in stranford lough a few weeks ago,and even though there was around 300 mullet swimming around i just couldn`t connect with one.i tried again last week with ronald and although we got the mullet feeding on the bread we still couldn`t land any,but we did have a few heart stopping moments when the mullet sucked in our hook baits but immediately spat it back out again.
i had nothing to do yesterday and decided to head over to try for them again.first stop was the shop for two loaves of bread one of which i broke up into crumb and put it in a bucket to use as groundbait.once the tide was right i headed down the beach and started to throw in small handfuls of bread towards the mullet which were moving in with the tide.it wasn`t long before they were feeding and i chucked out my first bait, within 5mins i had hooked a small one of around 8oz but it fell off as i was about to lift it in  .i missed about six other fish during the next 30mins and was running out of time to catch one when i finally hooked and landed my first ever mullet  .not a massive fish but for 1.75lb it fought very well.i got a passerby to take a photo for me before i put it back, the very next cast i hooked a much bigger fish and it took nearly 10mins to land.this one weighed in at 3.25lb  and was the last fish of the session but it was the best 2hrs fishing i`ve had in a while.i think i`ve got mullet fever and cant wait to get back over for another crack at those hard fighting grey ghosts. :D

i have noticed large numbers of mullet and sea trout down at gibbs the other night there must have been 10-12 fishing for them although i think that the trout were the main quarry.

mackeral were being caught as a by catch from only 3-4 feet of water! the area shouts flounder but no one seems to fish for them.

i have learnt my lesson of late that the fishing is much better in the "river" than in the lough

hi davy, i myself have tried and failed to catch a mullet and there is literally hundreds off kinnegar beach in holywood. u can see them on the surface in their dozens and some by the look of them would weigh at least 8lb weight! what way did u setup? i always thought a weighted float leading to a float-fished piece of bread would be the way to go. maybe i haven't got them on the feed when i tried and what line did u scale down to?

congratulations davy
I knew one of you would beat me to it,lol :D
I am guessing it was the same spot?
well done.

cheers cky and livid.i would recommend them to anyone as they fight hard and are very fast movers.
alright rab01,i`ve been using size ten hookand a small float that needs 1/4 oz or less.the bigger splash doesn`t seem to bother the mullet.plenty of ground bait to keep them interested.i used one loaf broke up and chucked in handfuls every few mins.i heard they get caught on the fly down at holywood.
Ronald im not a jammy wee XXXXXXXXX, its called skill

good work lads.
I went down last week twice and just threw in some bread, didn't fish for them and I'm on standby at work this week so it will be the weekend before I can get down again.
Got myself some of that fake bread so might try that on the fly rod for a laugh.
apparently very good if you soak it in cod liver oil!
well done again
cky :D
