fishes best when the tide is comeing in , flounder, bass , turbet and dogs.best baits lug and ragworm tipped with makerel.for the turbet and dogs makerel on its own, rigs two or three hook flappers size 1 hooks.you could try clipped down rig and put it out as far as possible could turn up anything.distance is not important for the flounder and bass.good luck mate.

The problem with trying to fish Benone or Downhill beach in the holiday season are Tourists and families on thier holidays
Also poser Jet Skiers (They make a good target when they get too close), See how near you can land your lead weight to them without knocking them off there jet ski
Only joking 8)
I wouldn't bother fishing Benone beach during daylight hours untill September :)

I'll second kissafish on that - if it is a sunny day you have no chance.

kite surfers, horse and traps, kids on body boards, wind surfers - you name it, it will be on that beach on a sunny day.

Best to leave it until after 7pm or later in the year.

Trust me - been there - done it - wore the T-shirt.

It is also too dangerous if the beach is busy - try sorting out the mess after you have landed 5oz of lead into someone after a snap off.....

if going up it is worth fishing at all stages of the tide, some areas on it fish better over higher end, some over the lower end of the tide.

as john says 3 hook flapper for your flats and bass but i would tend to fish smaller with size 2 being the biggest hook i ever use on it now.
if specifically after bass, use bigger ones though, purely to cope better with bait size and added security if you hook one; though most bass on it are schoolie size and the likes of a size 2 or 4 kamasan b940 will land them anyhow, plus give more hook ups with the flounders.
tie rigs with beads for flounders, plus some with no beads for flounder and bass. clip down rigs for the dogs after dark

thanks
