Mon Jul 24, 2006 12:56 pm

People: Conor C, SPGavin and me

Duration:18.00 - 23.00

Tide: HT 22.15

Weather: Warm and sunny spells, moderate southerly

Bait: Rag, mack, lures, feathers

Rigs: Conger rigs, penells, pullys

Results: 2 mackeral

Report:
10 members of GADSAC fished Islanmagee as a roving competition. We headed for Blackhead mainly hoping for Conger.

There were lots of mackeral being caught by other anglers at this mark, I managed 2 in between trying for and failing miserably for conger.

Young Conor C done us all proud by catching his first conger http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... ser_id=863 5lb 4oz taken with a 7' boat rod

This fish plus a doggie secured him 12 points in the Junior Comp - WELL DONE MATE 8) 8)

The venue fished poorly for me and the bro, he blanked and I got two mack (AND STILL NO BLOODY CONGER!!!!!!!).

Other anglers at this mark landed a succession of mackeral, small coalies and pollack, one even managed to hook a seagull which was fun to unhook . The funniest sight of the night was a mackeral tail walking across the water AFTER it has been released, he looked like he was auditioning for Strictly Come Dancing or something!!!!.

The other club members had a mixed bag of dogs, wrasse and mackeral. All in all it was a night which promised so much but delivered so little.... (except for Conor C!!!!)

Yeh, pretty poor fishing all over that area last night. It looked so promising too....

Anyone fishing that area, watch out for the wash coming from the ferries leaving the harbour....It can get quite hairy if you are not aware of it

Oh yes - I forgot to mention that... The HSS passed us just after 10, it was about a mile out and 20 mins after it passed, a huge amount of wash came in - luckily we seen it coming and got all the gear moved on time, it easily raised the tide by 3'

Me, Fergie + James (The Nephew) Tried Browns bay for the first few hours
because portmuck is a rig/trace graveyard at low tide.
Fergie caught 2 Doggies on mack/squid - James caught an undersized Wrass 26cm on Rag, And i didn't get a bite.
Started to move around to Portmuck at about 8.30pm.
Arrived there and started angling at 9.00pm.
Fergie caught a mackeral spinning, And i tried for Conger with a flapper rig, I got a flurry of three huge bites, But no takes.
