Bait: Sandeel,squid and mackerel

Rigs: float,clip down rig and light spinning setup

Results:2 Pollock,1 coalie 2 1/2lb,2 LSD and 1 mackerel


The Walter rock
Fished here from 17:15 - 19:15 great spot caught the Coalies,pollock and LSD from here also lost a good fish, after about 1 1/2 minutes of serious fighting it snapped my 12lb line on my spinning gear(note to self:-heavier gear needed for next trip).LSD where taken on sandeel free lined under a float the rest where taken on a German sprat (spinner).
This mark is only fishable at low tide but will produce some good fish (I think anyway)

Fished here from 22:45 - 23:45 caught 1 mackerel on sandeel

How did you manage to fish the area with that Big Mad Festival going on? lol

That's why I was fishing.The wife and kids were watching the floats.It was quite tricky getting from A to B to C but after about 300 detours I got to where i wanted to go. :lol: :lol:

I was down at it too, lol

This is the first year i've missed in about 10yrs but it was worth it. :D

hi jonny, good days sport there by the sound of it. hope to get out tomorrow for some big pollock. gonna give ardglass a go. haven't been this year as yet but there is some serious pollock and wrasse to be caught!! i wouldn't fish with anything less than 20lb line when rockfishing chum, lost too many good fish in the same way u did today. what do u reckon it was??

It had to have been a monster it would have been the biggest shore caught fish from Strangford lough (but it got away) :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

More than likely a Pollock or Coalie and as for the gear I thought I'd just have a little fun with my light spinning rod for a change while watching the float on the other rod.Lesson learned :oops: :shock: :oops:

If you park at the ferry car park and walk up the shore towards Newtownards about 200-300yrds at low water you will see a small island fish from the rocks just opposite.If you catch anything big its probably mine. :lol: :lol:

AHH, Thats where it is, I tried there about a month ago with no luck landing anything, but did have a couple of fish on, But it was high tide and saying that a fella stopped at the side off the road and told us it was better at low tide. Also moved further up to near the bend where the boats moor and fished from an old broken concrete pier type thing, had no luck there either, but i will go back and try again. Ever try off the back of ballyhenry island towards the shellfish machine? Want to try it someday soon i hope. Thanks

No never tried it but maybe give it a go at some stage.if you could keep in touch with any other marks you come across and I'll do the same I would also like to find out if any one knows of any shore marks nearer the mouth of the lough and how to get to them.I think this year I'll try and concentrate my efforts around this area because after Fridays trip I know there are good fish to be had.

No Problem. I see ur from Ards. Try stopping at the car park on the Portaferry rd That has the Space age toilet and take a walk down the shore, there are loads of crabs to be found under the rocks, tried it a few weeks ago for the first and was amazed at how easy it was to get some free bait.

Popped down to the Walter rock again tonight for an hour arrived a bit late for the tide.Caught 1 small Pollock and 1 Codling about 1 1/2lb. :(

here leave us ards lads alone ! 8) i hope no-ones implying that you get crabs from the space age toilet :oops: :oops: only joking :twisted:
as far as fishing off the old concrete pier in portaferry-it's the only place i would fish done there-but it quite weedy esp. in low tide...
the best time is later on at night as the flood light seems to draw the fish in more.
saying that i was there on friday night and only got 3 pollock-a poor nights fishing for anyone by the normal standards of portaferry :(

What time were you down at Mackers ?

we were there from approx 9:30 to approx 11:00 ish :!:
but just three pollock soon put an end to that nights fishing in portaferry.
we then moved to bangor and that was even worse :( ...total blanks all round :evil:
after an hour or so in bangor we had the best idea of the night :idea: just go home to bed :idea:

Was that you I was speaking to or your mate.I came down just before you left with my son.The last words I heard from you boys was "typical" when I caught my mackerel but I think it just went for my bait for badness just to sicken the two of you.Never even got so much as a bite after you left. :lol: :lol:

how many did you and your son end up getting? :?: - i had three pollock,just-that is very poor for portaferry :( .normally catch 10-50 fish there in a good nights fishing-always find it gets better afer dark.i also find there is less kids running about or casting over the top of you.
good to meet you and next time i'm there we may even get to talk cos i do know your face,sorry to say i think it may have been all those years ago at school :oops:
