I was passing Youghal around 1PM 19th July. Saw lot fishing and had a chuck.
Mackeral were about in reasonable numbers.
A fella' near me got a nice sized flounder on feathers  . He donated it to me and it's about to be my tea :) .
Any other mackeral reports to help the likes of me who gets a rare chance for a chuck, put here please

I have taken flounders when spinning for Bass, usually around estuaries. I have also caught them on live/dead sandeel trailed behind a weight on the bottom also while trageting Bass. Seems reasonable as they probably ambush sandeels as they emerge from the sand. Most of these have been over the 2Ib mark..!!

Report: Fished from the pier in Ring, Dungarvan on Friday 21st July.Nothing doing. About 6 other people were in the area and caught zip. One chap who had been fishing at low water caught 2 mackerel about an hour before I got there. Going out again this evening and hoping for a fish supper!

Seanaway,
Have you ever targeted the mullet in the estuary. Ive seen loads right there at the anchor bar. I always had a pint in my hand though, not a rod!!!!

one mack was so eager to get out of the water last night that it hooked itself on a bare hook on the retrieve after the crab was gone - off the coast road in portmarnock - plenty of them about there

Hi cobyeire,
Is that the spot where folks swim just down from the hotel. spotted 2 guys fishing there last night, had a chat with one of them, very pleasant.
Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:46 am
there were 4 of us there a bit further up the coast road from the hotel - we could see another chap south of us nearer the mini pier - maybe there were two there but i didnt see the other chap
there were certainly lots of people swiming about and the lines had to come in at one stage - we were thinking of goin to the chippie!
Tue Jul 25, 2006 1:47 pm
how did the session go anyway, any luck?
Tue Jul 25, 2006 3:44 pm
took 3 macks in three casts and typically lost a trace - then 2 smoothies were hooked by one of the others and i gave the CFB guy a hand tagging them
first time theyve been tagged here in ireland
another got about 10 macks again only a few casts - they were there, but we were fishing 3 rods for smoothies - not saying too much here as the others took photos etc. and will probably do a report of their own - im thinking :?

Fished Dun Laoghaire pier yesterday, got about 10 Mackerel on the float using Sandeel as bait. There were about 10 other lads there getting plenty on the feathers,30's and 40's.I prefer float fishing myself,it's just a bit more fun on lighter tackle. The fishing was good but there were some right yobs there, they started to hurl abuse at the passing yachts saying they were going to close to the pier  .Embarrassing.
Mackerel were quite small though, anyone else notice this on the east coast??
Wed Jul 26, 2006 5:41 pm
If you guys are after Macks, I suggest ya's try Donaghadee, they're feckin everywhere!
Wed Jul 26, 2006 6:35 pm
yea the ones we were getting were tiny - not a patch on the west coast

Yoghal
8 AM around HT
1 hour
Calm, overcast
Mackeral were present at times chasing sprats, could easily see them against the quay wall but no takers on good blue lure or hokkai 'feathers'
All of three people fishing in the whole town, as opposed to large numbers in the evening time

Kinsale and Kinsale Bridge
6 PM to 8.30 (HT around 8)
Plenty activity early on.
Went a bit quiet around HT
Half of West Cork must have been there, each with a nice bag of mackeral.
Almost 800 hits in a week on this thread
Give us a few more report around the country on what is obviously an interesting topic!!

Dillons Park, Dalkey
Rig: Feathers
Tide: Low ebb
Time: 7:00 pm
Result: Nothin'
28th July
Was rough and probably the worst time tide-wise but gave it a bash anyway. Barely gave it an hour. Other people there caught nothing either apart from my line a couple of times.

Was rakin' them in today (relatively). Same spot as yesterday but on the flowing tide up to full. Had 4 feathers on and dragged in several full loads so they're there in numbers and not just stragglers.
Mostly on the small side with only a few worth keepin'.
