Report:It was decided not to arrive at the mark until it was near dark as surfers here can make life a misery, was surprised on arrival to find the beach deserted of anglers, surfers and the like. Not that that bothered me to be honest, a bit of peace can be hard to beat... The plan was to fish the rising tide until near highwater at around half three in pursuit of Bass and large flounder.

We had both brought a fair variety of bait and it wasnt long before various cocktails on various rigs were sent on their merry way. I was fishing two rods, in my usual approach of a 2 hook set up fished in close and a larger single hook clip down blasted out as far as possible. Popped them into the tripod, poured a coffee and went to have a chat to Paul, wasnt expecting too much to happen until a bit later into the tide. After around 15 minutes or so the rod I was fishing at around 50 yards or so started bouncing, after a bit of fun trying to free weed from the line and running backwards up the beach as my tapered shock knot got jammed in the tip ring I had a fine looking bass on the sand of just over 2lbs or so. We barely had time for the unhooking and traditional photo call and release before Pauls rod started bouncing to the tune of another bass which to all intents and purposes could have been the others twin! More excitement, unhook, snap, release..... Rod number 2 which had been ignored for the past few minutes in all the excitement was displaying a slack line bite, a couple of minutes later LSD number 1 made its entrance. Stress! Coffee was now cold and the pulses were racing... and we go fishing to relax :D .... 3 rods, 3 fish on the first casts, what a start!

Well it was obvious that whatever happened after that was going to be something of an anticlimax after the start we had, a half hour or so passed with a couple of bites being missed by both of us until suddenly, Pauls rod started fair hopping to what looked like a better fish, weed again became a problem and I had to grab the shock leader and handline the best fish of the night onto the sand a nice bass of 3 1/2 pounds or so, again unhooked, picture and released. Which I believe was a PB for Paul...well done.

Things for me had gone a bit quiet but after a while, started to pick up with a flounder or 2 making an appearance and me missing another bite or two also. It was near 2 am before my second bass made an appearance, a feisty fella again around the 2lb mark, already had a pic of his twin brother so slipped him back straight away. With the rising tide came a lot of weed which was making life awkward, currents ripping parallel to the shore were also having an impact and after 3 am we decided to call it a night. Well pleased with the evenings fishing, finished up with 3 flounder, 3 LSDS and 2 bass, Paul had a PB bass so a good night all round. It certainly beats Big Brother anyway!

Pauls Bass took fresh Lug, his other took a Rag and squid cocktail. My two both took a sandeel section tipped with Ragworm. The flounders and one LSD all took frozen black lug tipped again with Rag. The other 2 LSDS both took crab. Disappointing results with the Razorfish as I have used it to good effect elsewhere before, did miss a bite or two on it but no hook ups. I had bought a pack of little 6 inch long frozen joey mackerel and tried fishing a whole one in the surf on a pennell rig to no avail.

All in all a very pleasant evening, hard to believe its been 2 months since I had a beach caster in my hand, it was good to be back..... Hard to beat watching your rod tip on a deserted beach sitting in back of jeep drinking coffee and scoffing all manner of crap :D Carlsberg dont do friday nights...

Paul is emailing Pics across, I'll insert them as soon as I get them.

Well done Paul

Good to see yee got some fish, and nice pics too. :D I travel to Cork a couple of times a year but have never had the chance to go fishing which is annoying considering the posabilities on offer. Hopefully this will change soon though.
