Clonea Beach East Co. Waterford 21/06/06

Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:03 pm

People:myself and the brother in law, John, plus his young son Conor

Duration: 9.30 to 12.30 pm

Tide: 3.6M Low water 9.30pm

Weather: South westerly turned more westerly as the night progressed. Sea was flat with no moon, plenty of clouds with the odd shower.

Bait:
My big problem as I had no lug. This was a little unplanned so I had to use all frozen bait, mackerel, peelers, sand-eel and razor.

Rigs: 1up 1 down size 1, one hook paternoster size 2/0 and wishbone size 1, 2up size 1/0 & Penell 1/0.

Results: Not a sausage.

Report:
This proves that Dungarvan bay is not paved with fish (at least for me), and that you have to fish the right tides and have the right bait. Anyway I had a good check of this spot at low tide and noted some interesting features which I will bear in mind the next time I fish at high water (That Cunnigar is just to easy!). I did get a bite on sand-eel at distance on the last cast and assume it was a doggie, but did not connect.
The young fellow did not get totally drunk off, despite the cold and lack of action, but I will have to come up with the goods on there next visit.
