After a long break I was desperate to get back fishing, had to loads of trips cancelled for all sorts of reasons. Therefore it was just great to get out. Anyway I fished the left hand beach on Clonea on a good tide in the hope that I could nab a Bass before the season closed. I fished 2 rods, A light beachcaster at distance (80-120 yards) and a bass rod in close (20-50 yards). Varying baits and rigs, leads didn't do much, with weed a little problem close in, but easy enough to avoid if the rods were kept high and the line tight. On the second last cast I had a nibble on the bass rod with a nice plumb small flounder taking the lug.
Well I may have not have got a Bass but its good to get out and its a place I will frequent again.
SAT 13th MAY
People: Myself
Duration:6.30-9.30pm
Tide: 3.9 M FT @ 6.30pm
Weather: Calm, slight onshore breeze, no surf.
Bait: Lug, crab & razor
Rigs: Ledger 2/0, 1up & 1down 1/0. Plain and gripped leads 2oz & 5oz.
Results: Flounder (25cm)
Report: My first fish of the year, sad but true  . Only my second outing in 2006, the longest I have not been fishing in 9 yrs and mentally I coundn't cope with such a break again. I missed 3 competitions and many pleasure outings. Nothing worse than an angler living in the SE and not fishing. Lets hope I can make up with some great fishin over the summer. :P
