I assume you fished below the Martello tower? I was around this area quite a bit last summer, it always produces doggies, sometimes in good numbers. Any spot between the tower and the telephone poles seems to produce them. I've never seen anything else caught here bar the odd pollack, however there must be wrasse around the rocky areas if you try and float fish for them.
It's also been a noted bass mark for years, although not as many would be caught these days. Try ledgering peelers, or plugging the shallow areas at low tide. Plugging/spinning might be better left until Autumn/September though.
