I was in slight pain, I had only my crappy jacket and my breathable waders had a leak so I was soaking...
Has anyone ever caught one of a surf beach before? I've never heard it mentioned in a post here.

Call my inexperienced but that seems slightly weird to catch a mullet with those tactics. I'd say it was a nice surprise though!? When I was fishing with Codswollop before he caught a mullet on a spinner. I think it was swimming amongst a small shoal of small bass. He foul hooked it!
Nice fish man.

yes, ive seen them caught quite a few times from the surf beaches here in the north
i remember an article in sea angler a while back about fishing for the golden grey mullet on south wales surf beaches too

Yeah they go after the golden greys on surf beaches over there using ragworm and maddies also.

Had one fall to king rag ledgered off a beach the year before last. Mental. Saw another fish taken a few years ago off the rocks, my mate was dropping a lugworm down a rock face when a 4lber shot off with it - thought it was the wrasse of a lifetime :-)

mmm.... interesting. Looks like it's not all that uncommon. This one fell to Rag on the bottom hook of a 1 up 1 down rig. Snood was about 45cm long. Great scrap though.

...
Is it me or does MAC display an uncanny resemblance to a certain comedian aka Ricky Gervais.... I keep looking at the picture expecting him to break into that dance! ....scary thought!

Nice fish - still waiting for the first mullet of the year to show up in Dublin. That fish appears from the pectoral fin to be a thick-lip and I have seen them taken before from Dingle beaches on maddies and other baits.
