[b]Report:fished near bangor for a few hours to see if there was any wrasse about and it turned out to be better than expected.my first cast produced a nice red cod of 2lb 8oz which put up a cracking fight on the pike rod,i also managed to get 3 wrasse all 1lb or just over.we both had a good few bites and marty lost something decent on the bottom.a very enjoyable few hours fishing and turned out better than expected.nice to see the wrasse are back :D

:cry: Typical ,i couldn't make it ,good to see the wrasse are in though , i seen marty lose some more weights as i passed in the the boat though :lol: hope he's got a good supply of spark plugs .

Good to sea the wrasse returning. I always enjoy fishing for wrasse: one of my favourite fish. Use harbour rags or small hardbacks. I've also used mussel (tied on with bait elastic) and resorted to limpet when the other baits have been scarce or ran out.

report: fished bangor again last night using rag and had two wrasse of 2lb and 2.3lb also had another red cod but it was only small.not a bad nights fishing :)

I assume you guys are fishing off the back of the pier.

I take my son (8yo) down to the pier in the summer and he catches dozens of wee whiting and pollack (up to 6") but I have never seen anything any bigger caught. We fish straight down the wall on the inside just at the bend.

I would be keen to give it a serious go but am concerned that the back of the pier might be too dangerous for him, what do you think?

Probably safe enough during the day at the back of the pier, just keep an eye on him, obviously...

When i was about 8 myself, i used to fish the inside bend of the Pier, just dropping it off the edge on a very light rod, great fun at that age but never anything significant whatsoever. The only time i have ever caught anything substancial from Bangor pier was when i was around that age and my dad had a boat in the marina, just fishing off the jetty i landed a flatty of well over 1lb anyway, back then it seemed huge! Incidentally i haven't caught a flatfish since!! :shock: :cry:

Nobuzz just watch out for the wake of the HSS when fishing the back of the pier.

bites were slow but any that we did get were good.only had four fish each but we had two good wrasse,mine tipped the scales to 3.65lb. .very nice fish for this time of year.i also had two red cod,biggest about 1lb,and another wrasse of 1lb.all darryls fish were wrasse,two 1lb`rs and a nice one around 2.5lb,but the biggest fish of the day was his wrasse of 3.9lb.not many fish but a very enjoyable day anyway.

nobuzz if you are wanting to fish bangor seriously bring plenty of weights,the whole bangor area is very tackle hungry and the snaggy parts are where the fish are,nothing on clean ground at all.the inside of the harbours not too bad some nice wrasse.my son has had them to 1.5lb and he was only three when he caught it,he`s had one of 1lb this year so far.probably caught bigger fish than drew :wink: :lol: :lol:

So theres decent fish inside the harbour as well as outside.

I presume you should be looking to fish near the boulders for the wrasse.

Report: wanted to get fishing early in the morning but the sea was horrible so we waited to see if it would calm down.ended up heading down at 2pm not a lot of fish about but we had 7 coalies,1 corkwing,1 goldsinny and 3 ballan wrasse.i lost a very big fish because it straightened the hook :cry: . moved to a different spot when it calmed and had a few wrasse to 2lb.not a bad day
