Greenore Co. Louth - specimen sea trout

Tue Apr 11, 2006 5:04 pm

Extract from this week's Loughs Agency Angling Reports....

Brian Connolly of Oriel Angling reports, Joe Murray had a three-pound sea trout on Saturday past from the shore at Greenore, but catch of the week must be the 12lb sea trout reported caught at Greenore, the trout was taken to Euro Tackle in Dundalk and tipped the scales a fraction over 12lbs, (remarkable fish).

"12lb sea trout reported caught" .... what exactly does 'reported caught' mean, word of mouth? I'd assume there some sort of evidence as we all know how 'anglers tales' can get somewhat erm, exagerated.

Nothing wrong with that when a reported 'specimen' is caught.  :P

I know where I'm going next week. :-)

A sea trout any size gets my attention this time of year.

Pity to see the sea trout not being returned alive. I'm not sure how a fish of this size would taste (assuming it ended up in the pot).

Any idea of what it was caught on? Tackle, lure?

Hi Lads,

I am peter noone of euro tackle in Dundalk, and to end all the doubts I weighed the fish last sunday morning 2nd of April in the shop and it tipped 12lb.I thought to myself that this fish should have been put back,I gave it a good look over for Gill maggots etc and we counted 38 sea lice attached. It was a fresh run trout.Photos will be in the shop soon a man from the balbriggan area caught it off greenore beach and 2 more caught there last sunday. The only catch is it was caught on a new lure available only in MY SHOP!!! Ha Ha I have the secret and I,m keeping them all to myself(Just Kidding).

Thanks Lads,

Gents,

I spoke with Peter Noone who owns Eurotackle about this fish. It's 100% genuine. I have to say I'm not all that surprised. I've often seen big sea trout in this area when bassing! Although, saying that 12lb is an extraordinary catch. Well done to the captor! Guess where I'll be this weekend........

I just seen Peter's post. No point in asking him for any lures. I've bought them all........

Only kidding. Check out Peter's website. If you can find more reasonable prices in Ireland you'll be doing well.
